How We Experienced the Oceanographic Monitoring Seminars in Panama and Colombia

In May of 2025, Casco Antiguo had the pleasure of organizing two very special seminars focused on Remote Oceanographic Monitoring: Instruments and Measurement Systems.

These events, held in Panama and Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), brought together industry experts to share insights, technological solutions, and real-world cases that are making a difference in protecting our oceans.

First Stop: Panama

  • We kicked things off in Panama by presenting key advancements in monitoring technologies:
  • Measurement of water physico-chemical parameters – NKE (Alexis Ribalchenko)
  • Monitoring of currents and wave patterns – Nortek (Cristóbal Molina)
  • Integrated systems** such as ocean buoys and underwater gliders
  • Mobile monitoring solutions for vessels – Casco Antiguo (Gustavo Rival)

One of the standout moments was the installation of an oceanographic buoy in Coiba National Park, which is now transmitting real-time data. This milestone represents a solid step towards more efficient and sustainable marine resource management.

We also carried out live ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) demonstrations, highlighting their value in enhancing underwater inspection safety and efficiency. These tools enable ecological studies, sampling, and detailed environmental observation.

Second Stop: Cartagena de Indias, Colombia

We continued in Cartagena de Indias, where we held another training and knowledge-sharing session, also focused on remote oceanographic monitoring.

Joining the seminar:

  • ROV applications for environmental monitoring – QYSEA (Yang “Brandon” Li)

It was a great opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation in the pursuit of healthier marine ecosystems.
